A Groundbreaking Lexus Electrified Concept: the 2023 RZ SUV

Hybrids have been a part of the Lexus lineup for a while now, but the 2023 Lexus RZ SUV will be its very first fully electric model. Unlike a hybrid, which uses an electric battery to boost the efficiency of its gasoline engine, an EV runs entirely on battery power. 

So, what else canHamilton, NJ and Princeton, NJ drivers expect from the RZ? So far, we’ve only seen it in the form of a Lexus electrified concept—but we do know that it will be released sometime in 2022 and will be built on the same e-TNGA platform as fellow electric EVs, the Subaru Solterra and Toyota BZ4x. Here’s what else is possible for the RZ Lexus electrified SUV:

• A direct4 and steer-by-wire system, similar to the one offered on the Toyota bZ4x. 
• Dual motors and torque-vectoring all-wheel drive.
• Higher-strength steel for increased rigidity in the frame.

Lexus: All-Electric by 2030

Many brands are shifting their operations to include more hybrids and EVs, but Lexus goes even further—committing to a lineup that consists entirely of Lexus electric SUVs and Lexus electric cars by 2030 for North American, Chinese, and European markets. Lineups for Lexus models made in other parts of the world will follow with full electrification by 2035.
